Solvent ink is an ink that is not water based, as it uses solvent as the carrier fluid.Mimaki's solvents are available in three grades, ES3 (eco solvent), SS (safety solvent), and HS (hard solvent). Mamiki's JV3 and JV5* range uses these inks.

- What is pigment ink?
Aqueous pigment ink is water based and highly resistant to fading. It should be printed on coated media. Best suited for outdoor signs, though lamination is required.
- What is dye ink?
Aqueous dye ink is a water based ink highly expressive in colours, but less resistant to fading when compared to pigment inks. It is suitable for indoor printing applications such as posters, and signs.
- What is dispersed dye ink?
Disperse dyes based inks are for transfer printing on polyester fabric. They are applied directly on to the substrate and fixation is done by high temperature steaming, after which washing may or may not be necessary. Mimaki's JV22,JV4,TX2, and TX3.

- What maintenace should I do on a JV3?
Cleaning of the capping station and heads should be done daily. Disway should be performed at least twice a week. The 'cleaning' function should be performed when the test draw has not printed as desired.
- What is a Y Current error
A Y current error occurs when the carriage is unable to continue across the slider bar. Turn the machine off. Clean and apply sowing machine oil (singer oil) to the bar. Clear and brush off any impurities. Slide the carriage back and fourth gently.

This is a media compensation issue. While printing push the function key and hit enter. This will enable you to open or close the media compensation.
